1/20/1250, William Wymer sued Robert de Stafford to warrant to him 4 mills in Stafford, which he holds of him and for which he has the charter of Milisant de Stafford, the grandmother of Robert, whose heir he is.

4/10/1250, Peter de Montfort sued Robert de Stafford, William de Albo Monasterio, John Giffard, and 13 others, for entering vi et armis into the manor of Clopton.

5/29/1250, Walter de Norhampton sued Robert de Stafford for a debt of £23. Richard de Morton sued Robert de Stafford and William Baghot to give up to him a horse of the value of 10 marks which they unjustly detained.

By 1252, Robert’s father died.

6/25/1253, William de Undesacre sued Robert de Stafford for 14 marks owing to him; Robert did not appear, and had made default several times, and the Sheriff had been commanded to distrain him, and to produce him at this date, and had done nothing in the matter. He is therefore commanded to distrain him.

1/14/1256, William Baggot sued Peter de Mora to acquit him of the service which Robert de Stafford claimed from him for the free tenement which he held of the said Peter in Huldelweston.

By 1262, Robert de Stafford was taken ill in London of the illness of which he afterwards died, wishing to provide for his son Robert, he had made a charter of feoffment of the lands in question in favour of his son Robert.

By 1261, lord Robert de Stafford, Gift in free alms of 10ac. 'de mensura regis' with appurts., in La Lee of Bradele … Also rent-charge of 3 marks from farm of mills in Stafford … (S) UKNA. [Bradele held by Robert’s ancestors.]

1261, Robert died.

6/4/1261, Grant to Edward the king's son of the wardship of the lands and heirs of Robert de Stafford, with the marriage of the heirs, wards, reliefs, marriages, advowsons of churches, and all other appurtenances; saving to Joan late the wife of the said Robert her dower, and to the king her marriage. ·         This Robert’s grandmother Milicent had 2 brothers, Nicholas and Robert, who died on a crusade leaving her as the heiress. Of those, Nicholas was the younger.

6/5/1262, An assize, &c., if Nicholas, son of Robert de Stafford, Edward, the eldest son of the King, … had unjustly disseised Robert, son of Robert de Stafford, of his free tenement in Tysho. … Nicholas, son and heir of Robert de Stafford, who is within age. [Both Nicholas and his brother Robert are under age and in wardships. Nicolas is in the wardship of Lord Edward, the king’s son.] Robert [his guardian] pleaded that Prince Edward had no claim to the land by reason of his custody of the inheritance of the said Nicholas, because his father Robert de Stafford, 3 weeks before his death, had given him the tenement in question.

1/1/1278, Nicholas de Stafford, baron of Stafford, acknowledges that he owes to Nutus de Florencia, merchant, 23 marks. (S) CCRs.

1281, Nicholas le Barun of Stafford was summoned by Edmund de Stafford to aquit him of the service which the King exacted from him … Edmund produced the deed of Robert de Stafford the father of Nicholas (whose heir he is). (S) Staffordshire Hist. Coll’s, V6, Pt1, 1885, Plea Rolls.
