10/19/1216, Henry III, age 9, succeeded John as King of England.

1226, Marmaduke’s father died.

4/30/1230, The king has given respite to Marmaduke Darel, who has set out in his service to parts overseas, from the 20m which he is bound to render to Leo the Jew of York. (S) FRsHIII.

1246, Marmaduke received a grant of free warren at Sessay, and at Crakehill [Elmire]. (S) Hist. of York North Riding, V1, 1914, Sessay. [1304, Confirmed to William Darell (15209152, ggs).]

1/12/1247, Order to the sheriff of Yorkshire to take into the king’s hand the manor of Marmaduke Darel of Brodsworth, which is the gage of Samuel son of Leo, Jew of York, with all chattels found therein, and to cause it to be kept safely with all of the aforesaid chattels. (S) FRsHIII.

7/31/1249, Appointment during pleasure of Marmaduke Darel to the keeping of the forest in the county of York. (S) CPRs.

~1250, Marmaduke Darel to William of Mandevile, clerk - 20 acres of land in Scessay. (S) UKNA.

1253, Marmaduke Darell confirmed to Fountains Abbey the grants made by his ancestors.

3/31/1261, Protection for life for Marmaduke Darel, on account of his old age and debility, and for his men, lands and possessions. (S) CPRs.

Marmaduke died.

Family notes:

·         1182, Marmaduke Darell held Sessay and had an unsuccessful claimed against him by William son of Odo and Alan Bruncoste. Marmaduke succeeded by son William.

·         1203, William Darell had a release of 8 carucates in Sessay and Hutton from Roger Conyers.

·         1226, William Darell involved in a dispute concerning common of pasture in Birdforth.
