{Bond}
Many Bonds were located in StnCo. One of the main
generators of income was buying land for the timber rights. The land was
cleared, and then farmed, or sold to farmers. The farmers around McHenry raised
the usual diversified crops. There are large pecan orchards in the vicinity of
the town, this being the most distinctive crop. McHenry is located 24 miles
from the Mississippi
Gulf Coast .
The country is rolling and is located in the Long Leaf Pine section of the
state. Old settlers state that no finer virgin pine timber was found anywhere
than in the vicinity of this town. The town, like all others of this section,
was built around the existence of great pine forests, creating all the kindred
industries, saw mills, planning mills, and turpentine stills. At one time,
around 1900, when the population was at its greatest, there was a large saw
mill and planning mill in the present environs of the town, with a half dozen
others in close proximity.
