Grey of Retherfeld was seised in fee of the under-mentioned manor, and granted
it to … The said grantees then granted it to the said John and the heirs male
of his body, with remainder to his right heirs, with the king’s licence. John
had 3 sons by Maud, then his wife, to wit, Bartholomew de Grey, the elder,
Robert de Grey and Richard de Grey, and died seised of the manor, which,
together with other lands &c., was assigned after his death to the said
Maud as her dower of all his lands &c. in the counties of Oxford and York.
Bartholomew died without heir of his body during Maud’s lifetime, and Maud died
seised of such estate in the manor on 23 January, 10 Richard II. After her
death the said Robert, named in the writ, entered into the manor as son and
heir male of the said John, and continued his estate therein all his life. Duston.
