1455-60, Letter of John, Lord Lovell, to his father-in-law, Vicount Beaumont. ‘Right worshipful, and my most best-beloved lord father, ... forasmuch as ye desire the stewardship of Baggeworth for your well-beloveed Thomas Everingham, ... by the advice of my council, shall give it him in writing, ...’ (S) Original Letter, Fenn, 1840, P76. 6/13/1456, John’s father died.

1456, John received a grant to be Chief Forester of Whichwood, Northampton.

10/21/1456, Order to the escheator in the county of Northampton [11 counties listed] to take the fealty of John Lovell knight, son and heir of William Lovell knight, and cause him to have full seisin of all the lands, … as the king for 1 mark paid in the hanaper has respited his homage … saving to Alice late the wife of the said William her reasonable dower of all the said lands. 6/1460, John, with Lord Scales and Hundgerford, entered London in support of King Henry VI after the invasion of future King Edward IV [Yorkists]. Failing they took refuge in the Tower.

7/10/1460, John, a Lancastrian, captured at the battle of Northampton. Yorkist forces numbering over 20,000 faced a smaller royal army with their backs against the river Nene. The main cause of the defeat was the defection of the royal forces on the right flank commanded by Lord Edmund Grey of Ruthin. The battle lasted less than an hour. 300 Lancastrians were killed. The King was captured.

1460-61, John and Lord Hungerford escaped from their captives and rode to join the Queen at Ecceshall castle. [The Queen had departed for Wales after hearing news of the battle.]

6/28/1461, Edward IV, age 19, succeeded Henry VI as King of England.

8/20/1461, “John, Lord Lovell, Burnell and Holand, to John Adams …”. (S) UKNA.

7/1/1463, Thomas Stone and Agnes, his wife, querents, and John Lovell', knight, and Joan, his wife, deforciants. The manor of Pycheford' and the advowson of the church. Thomas and Agnes have given them 400 pounds sterling. (S) Feet of Fines, Shropshire.
