• Comment by Timothy Field Beard: “I have determined that the widow of John Catlet of Newington near Sittingbourne who died before 26 Apr 1622 was not the Elizabeth Frauncis that he married in 1588, but another Elizabeth who was born about 1594. The last three children were by this wife.” (S) Avant, P51.
• Historical note: in 1556, In the Chelmsford witch trial, a “whyte spotted Catte” by the name of “Sathan” was passed down from witch to witch. Twelve-year old Elizabeth Frauncis received the cat from her grandmother. Elizabeth confessed that she had been taught witchcraft by her grandmother. With the cat she obtained a husband, who she later struck lame. She then gave the cat to Agnes Waterhouse who used it to kill a neighbor. Agnes was subsequently executed by fire.
