~1520, William born in Wells, Somerset Co., England, s/o 39680. John Godwyn.
~1525 Christian born in Batcombe, Somserset Co., England.
1544, William appointed a church warden for St. Thomas in Wells. (S) Hist. notes on the church of saint Thomas, 1875, Serel, P52.
1544-1551, “John, son of John Mawdley, v. William, son and heir of John Godwyn.: Hay in a close in Wells of the demise of the said John Godwyn.: Somerset.” UKNA.
2/25/1548, William leased the rectory at Wookey from William Bowerman, the Sub-Dean. The contract was for an annual rent of 23 pounds for a length of 80 years. [The family held the property for 150 years]. (S) Holmes, History of Wookey, P150.
1550, William married Christian.
By 1581 William died in Somerset, England. (S) Christian remarried.
By 8/20/1581 Christian married 2nd ? Drew. (S) See son Richard entry for this date.

Richard married Margaret Maye, d/o Robert Maye, sister to Anthony’s 2nd wife.
1573, Richard signed the Visitation of Somerset.
1/1/1577 Richard wrote his will.
8/20/1581, Richard and Margery his wife of Wells sold to John Maye of Charter House land and tenements in Wells formerly in possession of Richard Godwyn, the elder of Wells, and Christian Drew, mother of Richard Godwyn.
10/1/1582, Richard Godwyn of Wells sold to his brother Anthony of Wookey for 300 pounds land in tenure of Margery Godwyn of Wells, and widow Christian Drew, mother of said Richard.
~1583 Richard died. (S) Will probated.

ii. Isabel Godwyn, born ~1554.
Isabel married Nicholas Wykes of Wells, Somerset. (S) Tis. 1623 Harl V11, P120.
1/12/1611 Nicholas made his will.
Bef 11/20/1611 Nicholas died. (S) Will proved by Isabel, widow.
Children:
Edward Wykes. (S) Father’s will.
He married Jane Bourne, d/o Gilbert Bourne.
10/19/1616 Edward is named an overseer of the will of his 1C1R, James, s/o Richard  (158720iii).
William Wykes. (S) Father’s will.
