[Other possibilities: 21 March 1719: Listed on the ship St. Louis bound for Louisiana from La Rochelle: among deserters & others exiled by order of the court: Tranchemontagne (from Perigord), age 30. – 10 August 1720, on the ship Elephant bound for Louisiana: troops include Tranche Montagne.]
9/16/1719, Louis arrived in LA.
4/14/1724, “On 14 April 1724, I, the undersigned, certify having administered the holy sacrament of baptism with the usual ceremonies by the holy church to a boy born of legitimate marriage between Louis Assailly and Marie Theresa Bret, who have signed with me the same day and year as above.” /s/ Louis Bret, /s/ Father Claude, Cure of Mobile. (S) SRAoM, #406. [Since they were married 2 weeks later, there must have been a civil ceremony prior to the church wedding].
5/1/1724, Louis married Marie in a church-sanctioned wedding. “On 1 May 1724, I, the undersigned, Father Claude, Capuchin Apostolic Missionary Priest and Cure of Mobile, certify having given the nuptial blessing and received he mutual consent with the ceremonies prescribed by the Holy Church to Mr Louis Assailly, native of Niord, parish of St. Andre, and Therese Bret, native of La Rochelle, Notre Dame Parish, in presence of the witnesses who signed with me.” (S) SRAoM, #393. 4/6/1726, Louis witnessed the declaration of Mr. Flaucour that he had never been married. (S) Love’s Legacy, P37.
4/8/1726 Marie witnessed the wedding of her sister Marie Louise. (S) Love’s legacy, P39.
8/8/1726, “On 8 August 1726, I, a Capuchin Apostolic Missionary Priest have baptized with the ordinary ceremonies of the Church Joseph Claude, son of Louis Assaily, resident, and Theresa Bret, his parents in legitimate marriage, born 1 August. Godparents were Joseph Barbau dit Boisdore and Louise Bret, who named him Joseph Claude. In faith of which I have signed with the Godmother and Godfather on the day and year as above.” (S) SRAoM, #474.
2/1727 Marie, at Fort Conde in Mobile, was the godmother to her nephew Joseph Etenne, s/o her sister Jeanne. She signed the certificate. (S) SRAoM, #493.

7/6/1728, “On 6 July 1728, I, a Capuchin Apostolic Missionary Priest, in my function as Cure at Fort Conde of Mobile, have baptized with the ordinary ceremonies of the Church a girl born of the legitimate marriage between Louis Assailly and Marie Theresa Brette, her parents. Godparent were Louis Bourbon, resident, and Francoise Paillet, wife of Mr Baudin, who gave her the name Marie Theresa. 2/11/1730, “On 11 February 1730, I, a Capuchin Apostolic Missionary Priest, in my function as Cure at Fort Conde of Mobile, have baptized a boy born the same day of Louis Assailly (Saillier), a resident, and Theresa Bret, his parents in legitimate marriage. Godparents were Robert Talon, Master Cabinet Maker, and Jeanne Praux, wife of said Talon. In faith of which I have signed with the godfather the day and year as above. 4/5/1732, “On 5 April 1732, I, a Capuchin Apostolic Missionary Priest, in my function as Cure at Fort Conde of Mobile, have baptized with the ordinary ceremonies of the Church a girl born on 3 April 1732 of the legitimate marriage of Louis Assailly dit Tranchemontagne, resident, and Theresa Bret, her parents. Godparents were Pierre Domail and Anne L’Ange, who gave her the name of Anne. In faith of which I have signed the day and year as above. 10/21/1734, “On October 21st 1734, I a Capucin priest, Curate of Mobile, vicar general of the Bishop of Quebec, have officiated at the ceremony of th baptism of a boy born yesterday of the legitimate marriage of Louis Assaley called Trauchemontagne and of Marie Therese Brette, his father and mother; done at home by the midwife of a danger of death; he had for godfather Sieur Jean Baptiste Charitoy, procureur for Jean Bonaventure Robert and for godmother Jeanne Kerrourette who have given him the name of Jean Bonaventure, in faith of which I have signed with the godfather and the godmother the day and year as given.” /s/ f. 1/13/1737, “On January 13th 1737, I a Capucin missionary and apostolic priest, Cure at Fort Conde of Mobile, have baptized with the usual ceremonies of the Church a girl born on the previous day of the legitimate marriage of Louis Assailly of Niort, parish of St Andre, diocese of Poitiers, and of Theresa Bret, parish of Notre Dame of the city of La Rochelle; the godfather was Nicholas Aubran, the godmother Marie Real who have given her the name of Marie. 3/13/1739, “On March 13th 1739, I a Capucin missionary and apostolic priest, curate at Fort Conde of Mobile, have administered with the usual ceremonies of the church the sacrament of baptism to a boy born on the 9th of the same month of the same year of the legitimate marriage of Louis Assailly of Nyort and of Therese Brett of La Rochelle, his wife; the godfather was Blaise St Martin, king’s butcher, and the godmother madame his wife who have given him the name of Blaise, in faith of which godfather has signed with me and his wife has made her customary mark the day and year as given.” /s/ f. Family notes:
• The name appears in other Louisiana archives with different spellings. Their son Louis was baptized as Sallier in 1730.
• 1744, The white population of Pointe Coupee as recorded in French documents was 60. The black population 200. Tobacco was the main product. (S) History of Louisiana, Charles Gayarre, 1852.
• 1730–1750, Joseph Assailly is a prominent merchant in New Orleans. (S) LHQ Vol. 10 (1927), No. 2, P274, Records of the Superior Council of Louisiana. 1740, Joseph’s wife is named Jeanne Creuze; & he had a sister named Amriette Assailly.
• Guillaume Pepin dit Tranchmontagne and others with this “dit” are documented in Canada.
