Family notes:
• Silas Scarbrough was from NC, he went thru GA with his son Frederick in about 1809 and settled in AL in 1810. They left Edgecombe, NC and before that were in Dobbs Co.
• Silas Scarbrough was named as his father in Frederick Scarbrough’s Bible.
• In Feb. of 1909 daughter Julia Ann was bedridden and had to have constant care. Her granddaughter Laura Evelyn Jones spent many hours reading to her from the family bible. One day Evie took a paper and pencil and copied down the information from the bible of Frederick and Mary Ann Scarbrough. When Julia saw what Evie was doing and Evie’s interest in the family, Julia started telling Evie where everyone went or where they came from. Julia told Evie many things that she wrote down in a penny note pad over many days before Julia died.
• “A poor man, F. Scarborough, made a claim, opened land, raised corn sufficient for his family, and the speculator entered his land. The settler went to Mobile, stated to the speculator the circumstances, and asked him if he would not take the amount of the entrance money as paid at the land office and allow him as the actual settler to retain his land. The speculator in reply that the settler might retain his land for ten dollars an acre. But this was more than he was able to pay, and he returned home to Clarke county to provide for his family a home in someother way.
